The Dyson V7 Motorhead Cordless Vacuum

Most cordless stick vacuum cleaners sacrifice suction power in favor of independence from outlets, small footprint, light weight, and easy handling. Dyson V7 Motorhead tries to meet all needs and embeds the 2 Tier Radial Cyclone technology into a compact, lightweight, and versatile design.

To allow proper cleaning with minimum effort of all areas, the product turns from a stick vacuum into a handheld model. To improve results according to the type of surface it is used on, it comes with several cleaning tools users can switch between.

With an attractive design and impressive specifications, Dyson V7 could represent an upgrade for many homes. This is true in especially small ones, where time, convenience, and cleaning results make the higher price worth paying.

The Dyson V7 is a great investment especially for small homes

Specs

Dyson V7 offers 75% more power than its predecessor, V6, which fared quite well itself. For those who were satisfied with the lower power level, the V7 could bring additional run time, about 10 minutes more compared to its predecessor. It comes with two power modes, letting users choose the best one for their needs.

The MAX mode is perfect for dirty areas which require in-depth cleaning, while the Powerful Mode is preferable for regular, everyday cleaning. The runtime depends on the mode. It ranges from 12 minutes in MAX mode to 30 minutes in Powerful mode. Users can switch between modes as they see fit.

Hard to reach areas are not an issue for the V7 Motorhead. It has a low-profile that allows it to fit even under the furniture. It can also be used for the car or the kitchen table, as it turns into a handheld vacuum with just one click.

Weighing a little over 5 pounds, Dyson V7 is easy to push around and maneuver. Its dirt bin is very easy to remove and empty, preventing the users’ contact with the dirt. The accessories are easy to install and use, so switching from one type of surface to the next won’t take more than seconds.

Accessories

Dyson V7 Motorhead is delivered with a docking station that makes charging and storage very convenient. It allows wall mounting and can hold both the device and its accessories. The included cleaning heads allow it to offer great results on all surfaces.

The direct drive head embeds its bristles deep into carpets to remove even ground-in dirt. The crevice tool is perfect for corners, furniture joints and areas where space can be an issue. The combination tool does a great job removing dust and cleaning the furniture.

Price

The price of Dyson V7 Motorhead is on the high side, and this can be a little too much for some users. All of the Dyson vacuum cleaners are pricey, and this one is no exception.

However, those who can afford to make the investment will most likely find it worthwhile, especially since they’ll have no cords, replacement bags, and replacement filters to worry about.

What We Like

This vacuum is easy to fall in love with. It is not much heavier and bulkier than a broomstick, yet powerful and effective on any surface. Without a cord to plug, unplug, and trip on, homes are easy to clean with it. When the cleaning is over, the docking station makes it easy to charge and store, even in a small and crowded closet.

The V7’s impressive power is taken to a new level by its direct head roll, whose bristles dive deep into carpets, removing even ground-in dirt. The runtime is longer than in previous models, and the two power modes allow users to adjust suction power as they see fit.

The long wand makes the V7 Motorhead perfect for cleaning ceiling spider webs and dust. A single click is enough to turn it into a small but mighty handheld vacuum, perfect for spills and dirt needing precise, close-up cleaning.

Many vacuum cleaners rely on replaceable filters, but not this one. V7’s filter is durable and washable, eliminating the need for replacements. The bagless design helps users save money and effort as well since it eliminates the need to buy and replace bags.

What We Don't Like

Considering that most cordless stick vacuum reviews complain about low suction power and run times, this device tends towards perfection. It has few and small weaknesses that can be easily overlooked in favor of the numerous strengths discussed above.

One of them would be the battery indicator. One Dyson V7 review pointed out that, unlike the indicator of the newer and more expensive V8, this one does not show the battery level. It only signals the battery is charged or empty. The easiest way to get over this inconvenient is to place the cleaner in the docket station when the job is done. This way, it will surely be ready for the next cleaning session.

Another one would be the lack of HEPA filters and pet hair cleaning tools. However, user reviews assure it does a great job as it is. Dyson V8 Animal would probably be a better alternative for homes with pets, but at a 50% higher price.

Another small inconvenient is the limited capacity of the dirt bin. Indeed, 0.5l is not much. However, it is enough to support a cleaning session in most homes, and emptying the bin is extremely easy. Moreover, it is the price users have to pay for the lightweight and compact design, worth paying by most accounts.

Cons

  • Battery indicator does not track in-between levels
  • The dirt bin is rather small

Final Thoughts

Although Dyson V7 does not come cheap, its design is so convenient and versatile, and its suction power and cleaning efficiency are so impressive that anyone should consider its acquisition. Hundreds of users vouch for it, so why not give it a chance!
