I enjoy the baby showers where the food has been catered or where there has been socializing provided for the guests and the hostess can just relax and enjoy a drink. Appetizers are ideal. They are tiny, easy to hold, and still delicious on the off chance Aunt Linda arrives 40 minutes late (which she absolutely will). The items on this list can be prepped in advance, easily put together, and served at room temperature. I did incorporate a few “looks fancy, is secretly easy” moves, because that’s part of the enjoyment.

1) Cucumber Bites
I admit I once thought cucumber rounds were just an attempt to convince people they’re eating healthy, but I’m starting to see that they can be pretty useful at a shower. They are refreshing and provide a lighter feel to the heftier bites of the sandwich. Blend the cream cheese with the lemon zest, chives, dill, and a touch of garlic powder. Spoon or pipe that mixture of cream cheese on top. While a slice of smoked salmon may lend a little more sophistication to a quality platter, it is certainly not a requirement.
2) Caprese Skewers

Even if you assembled them in a slight panic, these still convey that I am effortlessly put together. For every skewer, thread together cherry tomatoes, mini mozzarella balls, and basil, and then finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a balsamic glaze. They should be all right if kept in the fridge for a few hours. Just avoid adding salt too early; otherwise, the tomatoes will start to exude liquid. Watching a toddler eat six of them in a row as if they were candy was nothing short of miraculous.
3) Mini Croissant Sandwiches
Mini croissants can be described as tiny, edible ‘jewelry’ for parties. Simplify your life by using rotisserie chicken. Mix it with mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), celery, grapes, and a bit of curry powder if you like that sweet and savory thing. Cut the croissants and insert a leaf of lettuce while keeping the pastry intact. They are kind and easy to talk to and they clearly show a warm and caring concern for others.
4) Deviled Eggs
There is a reason deviled eggs are a classic; they vanish. If peeling eggs is mildly infuriating to you, consider steaming instead of boiling them. Some people find that after steaming, it is easier to remove the shells. Mix filling ingredients like mayonnaise, mustard, and vinegar, and pipe them to create the illusion of fancier presentation. Chives and paprika give that organized impression, even if that isn’t the case.
5) Puff Pastry Pinwheels

This is where things really begin to get a little wacky (in a good way) because this is where you get to take full advantage of all the amazing things puff pastry does for you. Spread some pesto on thawed puff pastry, sprinkle Parmesan and mozzarella, roll it up, cut it into pieces, and then bake it. They look as if you’ve engaged a private chef for the afternoon. While I do enjoy them warm, they are still good lukewarm on the counter.
6) Fruit And Cheese Bites

A well-prepared charcuterie board is visually appealing, but it can also rapidly turn into a free-for-all grazing activity. These little pre-made bites maintain order: cheddar + grapes + apples is an obvious combo, while brie + strawberries is a lovely pairing too. The objective is to make everything bite-sized so that nobody will have to hover over and saw at the cheese. This takes hardly any effort at all, but the rewards pay off to the equivalent of making the bed.
7) Baked Brie

Baked Brie is my favorite \”wow, she put so much effort into this\” option. Score the top, add jam (fig, apricot, or raspberry) and bake until bubbly and starting to brown. Please provide a small spoon to avoid guests mistakenly treating it like a cracker dip and going in like mini bulldozers. If your audience has concerns about nuts, feel free to exclude them and substitute rosemary instead for fragrance.
8) Veggie Dip Cups

Veggie cups used to seem lame to me, but after hosting a party and seeing them be the first food item to get eaten, I changed my mind. They are quite simple to transport, result in less of a mess, and are also quite cute when displayed on a tray. Using a spoon, place ranch or hummus into the bottom of individual clear cups. After, place the veggie sticks upright. They also offer a break for anyone wanting an alternative to the pastry puffs and mini sandwiches.
9) Bruschetta

In theory, this is simple. If they are built too early, tomatoes can turn crostini into sad little rafts. I will toast the bread and combine the toppings of tomato, basil, olive oil, and salt. I will separate the toppings and bread until right before I serve them. A little balsamic vinegar can add some more complexity to the dish but use it carefully so that it doesn’t overwhelm the other components. Its bright and cheerful look would make a nice addition to any table.
10) Mini Quiches

Mini quiches are perhaps the only kind of party food that manages to be both refined and homey at the same time. You can absolutely buy them frozen and bake them straight from the package. There is no shame in that; it is merely a matter of strategy. If you are making your own, take a muffin tin and put in some eggs, cheese, and any mixture of ingredients such as spinach, ham, or mushrooms. Warm is great, but they can also be served perfectly fine at room temperature, which is the hosting holy grail for shower events.
11) Party Meatballs

I prepare this appetizer to prevent people from offering to help. For instance, you can use frozen meatballs and then prepare a simple glaze, such as a mixture of chili sauce and grape jelly, or BBQ sauce with a bit of jelly. Since sauce may spill, provide napkins and toothpicks. They provide a nostalgic feeling; they have a hint of vintage style, and are remarkably hard to miss.
12) Spinach Artichoke Dip

While it may be a bit of a diva (hot, gooey, etc.), guests love the spinach artichoke dip. Mix together spinach, chopped artichokes, cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, and abundant cheese, and bake until the edges have browned. I’ve had people circle around it as though it was a campfire. Put out chips and bread so everyone can choose how they want to enjoy it.
13) Hummus Platter

This is my minimal effort and maximum reward trick, particularly for showers that take place during the day. Using a spoon, add some hummus into a shallow bowl, and then use the back of the spoon to create some swirls. Pour some olive oil in the grooves you made. Sprinkling some za’atar or paprika may give off the impression that you are more knowledgeable than you really are. All it takes are pita, carrots, and cucumbers, and you’ve got an no cook appetizer.
14) Smoked Salmon Bites
Smoked salmon may be perceived as a bit ‘brunchy’ but it is exactly that’s makes it suitable for a baby shower. Place the folded smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. For a pungeant, salty twist, feel free to add dill or capers! You do not need much salmon for each bite, so a small amount will suffice. This option is also nice for guests who might not want to eat meat but still want something substantial and savory.
15) Cucumber Tea Sandwiches

Wearing linen would be ideal as there is an almost quaintly old-fashioned charm to tea sandwiches. Spread cream cheese on white or wheat sandwich bread, place thinly sliced cucumbers on top, and cut the sandwich into triangles or fingers. Store the covered strawberries in the fridge with a damp paper towel to help keep them from drying out. They are soft and neat and provide an appealing counterpoint to richer bites.
16) Egg Salad Tea Sandwiches
Egg salad has a bad reputation because of the unfortunate versions served at unfortunate picnics. It’s particularly gratifying when it’s new (chopped eggs, mayonnaise, Dijon, a little celery or relish). Watercress or arugula lends a peppery edge that brightens everything up. I prefer these to be cut small so it all feels dainty and not lunchbox heavy.
17) Pimento Cheese Toasts
Pimento cheese is somewhat impetuous in nature, yet it undeniably satisfies the cravings one might have for a toast point. It is rich in creaminess and saltiness. Mix diced pimentos, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar cheese, and a little cayenne pepper. Spread on crostini. Preparing the spread a day in advance is a gift to your future self. If you think it may be too rich, just add pickles on the side, and say it’s balanced.
18) Sweet Potato Bites
While this may seem more difficult than it really is, it is really just “roast some coins and add some toppings”. Just cut the sweet potatoes into circles and bake them until soft. Then, simply add goat cheese on top and drizzle with honey. Even a small amount of flaky salt alters the perception of sweetness. Being gluten-free, they also pair wonderfully with most spreads, while their warm orange color will beautifully contrast against the white of the cheese.
19) Pigs In A Blanket
Regardless of how luxurious the shower is, individuals still desire pigs in a blanket. Wrap the mini sausages with crescent dough and bake until they are a golden brown color. Pairs well with mustard or honey mustard. Like a childhood snack that put on a blazer, they are salty and cozy. The are great methods if you are short on time and very forgiving.
20) Chicken Satay Skewers
Satay skewers elevate the level of celebration at the table and make a basic meeting more engaging. Use pre-cooked chicken strips (or sauté some pieces quickly). Provide a peanut sauce for customers to dip into. If allergy concerns arise, a sunflower seed butter sauce can surprisingly work for most people because it is still creamy and savory. I like to keep skewers compact so they are easier to control and don’t require any elbow grease.
21) Orzo Salad Cups
These unique cups show that not everything has to be a dip or a pastry. Combine cooked and cooled orzo with cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs. Divide into smaller cups so guests can grab and go without having to balance a plate. It contributes to the overall diversity while enhancing the “lunchy” atmosphere of the entire spread.
22) Stuffed Mini Peppers

Mini peppers are already cute; stuffing them lets us celebrate their cuteness even more. Stir together cream cheese, chopped scallions, and a dash of lemon juice. Using this mixture, fill the halves of the peppers. Finish with a dusting of everything bagel seasoning. Such a mixture of creamy and crisp texture is one I find hard to refuse. Also: without cooking or hassle, you can enjoy a simple crunch.
23) Phyllo Cups
Phyllo cups give me the ‘mini pastries’ vibe without the hassle of dealing with pastry. On every cracker, put a small piece of brie cheese and a spoonful of jam. Bake until crispy edges form. I feel a bit smug for around five minutes when they emerge looking like they just came from a bakery. For an extra nutty flavor, add some thyme.
24) Guacamole And Salsa

I like to put two dips that have friendly disagreements with each other: creamy guacamole and bright mango salsa. Mango adds sweetness and acidity to balance the overall taste. Make the guacamole as close to the time the party starts as you can to keep it from browning. As an alternative, you can slow the browning of the guacamole by placing plastic wrap directly on its surface. This is the bowl that people keep taking “just one more chip” from until it’s suddenly empty.
25) Chocolate Strawberry Bites
Every baby shower spread should have at least one sweet option. Chocolate-covered strawberries are perfect because guests don’t need forks. For an elegant finishing touch, drizzle white chocolate over the strawberries after you dip them in melted semi-sweet chocolate. Let them sit on parchment paper in the fridge, then take them out just before serving to ensure they remain crispy. They feel celebratory, without being sugary enough to cause everyone to crash mid-present opening.
