My favorite baby showers are the ones where there’s catering done! When the guests can mingle and the hostess can kick back and sip some drinks, that’s the best. Ideally there will be easy to snack on mini foods. Grab and go snacks are great because they can be made in advance and served at room temp. I’ve added a couple of simple DIY fancies to the menu.

1) Cucumber Bites
I used to think preparing cucumber rounds for a shower was just an attempt get people eating healthy. I see now they’re refreshing between other heavier food. Mix the cream cheese with the lemon zest, chives, dill, and a little garlic powder and pipe it on top. You can get classy with a bit of smoked salmon if you want.
2) Caprese Skewers

Regardless of whether you put them together in a slight rush, it still shows I am done with my party look. For each skewer, thread a cherry tomato, a mini mozzarella ball, and a basil leaf, then top it off with a drizzle of olive oil and a balsamic glaze. If stored in the fridge, they should be fine for a few hours. Just avoid adding salt, as tomatoes will begin to ooze liquid, so keep an eye on the time. Honestly, seeing a toddler crush six of those mini croissants like they were candy is a miracle.
3) Mini Croissant Sandwiches
Think of mini croissants as little, edible party ‘jewelry.’ To make your life easier, use store-bought rotisserie chicken. Then mix it with mayo (or even Greek yogurt), celery, grapes, and a bit of curry powder. If you enjoy that combination of sweetness and salt, cut the croissants in half, insert a leaf of lettuce while keeping the pastry as whole. They are nice and easy to approach, and they open up to you showing a genuine and warm concern for others.
4) Deviled Eggs
There is a reason deviled eggs are a classic; they disappear. Peeling eggs is annoying, I get it. Try steaming them instead of boiling! A lot of people find it easier to get the shells off after steaming. For the filling, mix together mayo, mustard, and vinegar and then pipe them for a fancier look. Chives and paprika sprinkle also look nice, even if it isn’t that structured.
5) Puff Pastry Pinwheels

Things start to get wacky (in a good way) here because you get to fully utilize everything incredible about puff pastry. With thawed puff pastry, spread pesto, sprinkle some Parmesan and mozzarella, roll it up and cut it into pieces to bake. They look like you hired a private chef for the day. I like them warm but they are still good lukewarm on the counter.
6) Fruit and Cheese Bites

While a charcuterie board is an attractive centerpiece for any gathering and can be a nice conversation starter, it often turns into an all-out grazing activity, which can get a bit messy. These little pre-made snacks keep it all a little more civilized.
Everyone knows cheddar + grapes + apples + a cracker is a great combo, and the addition of brie + strawberries makes it a bit fancier! The goal is to make everything bite-sized so no one has to hover over the board sawing at the cheese. This takes almost no effort on your part, but the payoff is worth the equivalent of making the bed.
7) Baked Brie

Baked brie is my go-to for “wow, she really put in a lot of effort” option. Score the top, add jam (fig, apricot, or raspberry) and bake until bubbly and beginning to brown. And please, include a mini spoon because some guests will mistake it for a cracker dip, and go mini bulldozer style. If you have nut allergies in your audience, take them out and use rosemary instead for a nice scent.
8) Veggie Dip Cups

I always thought veggie cups were lame. But after seeing them get eaten first at the party I changed my mind. These cups are easy to transport, create less of a mess, and are super cute displayed on a tray. To do this, take individual clear cups and put a spoonful of ranch or hummus at the bottom of each. Then, add veggie sticks standing up. They also give a break to those who want something else than pastry puffs and mini sandwiches.
9) Bruschetta

Principally, this is quite simple. Constructing them too early causes the tomatoes to turn the crostini into sad little rafts. I will toast the bread then combine the toppings of tomato, basil, olive oil, and salt. I will keep the toppings and the bread separate until right before I serve them. Little balsamic vinegar can incorporate additional complexity into the dish. However, please use it carefully so that it does not overwhelm the components. Additionally, its cheerful, bright aesthetics would be a lovely centerpiece for any table.
10) Mini Quiches

Mini quiches are probably the only kind of party food that can be described as refined and homey at the same time. You can buy them frozen and bake from the package. If you are making your own, take a muffin tin and put in some eggs, cheese, and any combination of ingredients, such as spinach, ham, or mushrooms. While they are best served warm, they are also perfectly acceptable at room temperature, which is the hosting holy grail for shower events.
11) Party Meatballs

I make this appetizer so people don’t try to help. For example, you can take frozen meatballs, and make a simple glaze like a mixture of chili sauce with grape jelly or BBQ sauce with a little bit of jelly. Since the sauce can spill, be sure to set out napkins and toothpicks. They have a nostalgic feel to them, they feel a little vintage, and are almost impossible to overlook.
12) Spinach Artichoke Dip

Guests enjoy the spinach artichoke dip even though it can be a little bit of a diva (hot, gooey, etc.). Mix together spinach, chopped artichokes, cream cheese, sour cream, and bake until the edges are browned. People have camped around it like it’s a campfire. You can set out chips and bread so everyone can decide how they want to enjoy it.
13) Hummus Platter

I’ve got a clever hack for you here that will work especially well for daytime showers. Using a spoon, take some hummus and put it in a shallow bowl and then use the back of your spoon to make some swirls. Pour some olive oil in the swirls you made. To seem like you have more knowledge than you do, you could sprinkle some za’atar or paprika. With pita, carrots and cucumbers you have yourself an appetizer that requires no cooking.
14) Smoked Salmon Bites
While smoked salmon might seem a bit too “brunchy,” that’s what makes it perfect for a baby shower. Layer the folded smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber. For a really salty addition, feel free to put in some dill or capers! You won’t need a lot of salmon for each bite, and so a small amount is perfect. This choice is great for guests who may not want to eat meat, but still want something hearty and savoury.
15) Cucumber Tea Sandwiches

Since tea sandwiches have a unique old-fashioned appeal, it would make sense to wear linen. Take white or wheat sandwich bread, spread cream cheese on it, put thinly sliced cucumbers on it, and cut the sandwich into triangle or finger sandwiches. To keep covered strawberries from drying out, store them in the fridge with a damp paper towel. These bites are soft and neat, and provide a nice contrast to richer bites.
16) Egg Salad Tea Sandwiches
Egg salad has been known to be infamous because of the dismal ones found at horrible picnics. It is particularly gratifying when it is new (chopped eggs, mayo, Dijon, a bit of celery or relish). Watercress or arugula gives a nice peppery touch that brightens everything up. I like these to be cut small so that is feels dainty, and not lunchbox heavy.
17) Pimento Cheese Toasts
Pimento cheese has the ability to give an intense food experience, and definitely hits the spot for a toast point. It is very creamy and salty, and even has a bit of a kick. To make your spread, mix diced pimentos, mayo, shredded cheddar, and a bit of cayenne. Spread on crostini. If you think the spread is too rich, just add pickles on the side and call it balanced.
18) Sweet Potato Bites
It may sound complicated but it’s really just “roast some coins and add some toppings” Just cut some sweet potatoes into circles and bake until soft. Then just add some goat cheese and top with honey. A little bit of flaky salt changes how sweet things taste. They are gluten free and also go great with most spreads. Their warm orange color will look great next to the white cheese.
19) Pigs in a Blanket
No matter how fancy the shower is, people still want pigs in the blanket. For this, you need mini sausages and some crescent dough to wrap around them. Bake them until golden brown and serve with mustard or honey mustard. They are the type of snacks that are salty and cozy, perfect for the occasion.
20) Chicken Satay Skewers
Satay skewers make any occasion more fun. Just use some pre cooked chicken strips and give them peanut sauce to dip in. If someone has a nut allergy, you can use sunflower seed sauce instead. I like to keep the skewers small, so people can eat them without a lot of effort.
21) Orzo Salad Cups
These salad cups show that not everything has to be a dip or a pastry. This dish can be made with cooked and cooled orzo mixed with cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs. Divide into smaller cups, so guests can grab and go without having to balance a plate. It also adds to the overall variety while also increasing the “lunchy” feel of the whole spread.
22) Stuffed Mini Peppers

Mini peppers are the cutest! Stuffing them makes them even better. Mix some cream cheese, sliced scallions, and a squeeze of lemon juice, then fill the pepper halves with your concoction. Top with everything bagel seasoning to make your creamy crunch creation even better. Plus, there’s no cook & prep involved and you can just enjoy.
23) Phyllo Cups
Phyllo cups are ‘mini pastries’ without the risk of touching pastry yourself. For each cracker, add a bit of brie cheese and a dollop of jam. Bake until the brie bubbles and edges are crispy. They come out of the oven looking like they’ve been professionally done and I feel kinda smug. Thyme adds a nice nutty taste if you want a bit more.
24) Guacamole and Salsa

I like to set out two dips that have a friendly little rivalry; creamy guacamole and bright mango salsa. The mango salsa adds a nice sweetness and acidity to balance the creamy guac.
To keep your guac from browning, make it just before the party starts. If you want to make it a bit earlier you can slow the browning by pressing plastic wrap directly on the surface of the guacamole. This is the dip that people can’t help but keep taking ‘just one more chip’ from until the bowl is empty.
25) Chocolate Strawberry Bites
Every baby shower spread needs something sweet. Chocolate covered strawberries are excellent because guests don’t need utensils to eat them. For a more elegant look, drizzle some white chocolate on top after you dip them in some semi-sweet chocolate.
Then let them set on some parchment in the fridge until right before serving. The white chocolate drizzle and semi-sweet chocolate will help them stay crispy until serving. They feel like a celebration without being too sweet to avoid everyone getting a sugar crash mid-present opening.
